Our Hilux

In December 2021 we finally decided and launched our new

Hilux ordered from Toyota in Lier/Norway.

The approximate delivery date was given as June 2022. But no one suspected

that the Toyota factory in Durban/South Africa, where Toyota produces the Hilux for Europe, among other things.

was flooded by a severe storm in April 2022 and was unable to produce cars for a long time.

After numerous calls to the dealer and thanks to the Toyota app, which constantly provided updates, we found out that our Hilux was manufactured on March 24th and had left Durban by ship shortly before the storm.

Sometimes you get bored and you sit down at the computer to see if you can find out which vessel carries your car to Europe. Luckily, some websites can help you with that.

On MarineTraffic.com you can search around until you find the right boat. It took a while, as you don't have any data, but in the end, it worked. This kind of information doesn't add much value, but if you can't wait for your new car to finally arrive, it's a nice tool to pass the time.

In June 2022, the time had finally come. Our Hilux had arrived and was ready to be picked up. All that was left was to install the alarm system. Strangely enough, Toyota doesn't do this straight away at the factory, only at the local dealer before handover.

Otherwise, our Hilux has no other extra equipment. Only the standard SR equipment with the manual 2.4-liter engine. The rest that we think is needed, we install and/or add ourselves.

After we were finally able to pick up our Hilux, we started thinking about the equipment.

Extra lights, a compressor, an auxiliary battery, a winch, a snorkel, and so on....
