Many people dream of traveling to Africa – the infamous continent! Who wouldn't want to see the Big Five: elephants, lions, hippos and all the amazing animals you usually only see on TV? And immerse yourself in foreign cultures with all their rituals and ceremonies!

Who wouldn't want to wander through the savannah in search of the original Africa? Close to nature, in the footsteps of Livingston and Kingsley.

But how can you experience all this in a safe and above all harmless way? Without all the dangers and inconveniences you hear about Africa in the news!

The best way, of course, is with a package tour from a German tour operator. And to make the whole thing bulletproof, a cruise!

So, we traveled by plane via Johannesburg to Cape Town, where our cruise ship was already waiting for us.

It was our first trip to southern Africa and our expectations were high! We were lucky enough to arrive a little earlier, which gave us more time in Cape Town.

And what can I say about Cape Town? It's absolutely amazing! Beautiful and exciting. On the cab ride from the airport to the city center, you feel like you're driving straight towards Table Mountain the whole time. What a sight! After all the preparations and waiting for a good two weeks of vacation, it was a strange feeling to actually be here. And finally, we arrived at one of our favorite spots and were ready to go!

On the way to Cape Town, I asked our taxi driver: ‘Where are the elephants now?’ She was really trying hard to keep the car on track as she laughed heartily…

Cape Town has something hard to describe, but it's absolutely incredible! It was incredible to feel like we were at the end of the world, on the other side of the globe! Cape Town is an amazingly international and urban city, but it also has a wonderful, intimate side that makes it feel like a small, cozy town. The famous Waterfront is buzzing with people from all over the world, full of shops and restaurants. You simply have to go to Lions Head at sunset! But the city is literally towered over by the magnificent Table Mountain, the iconic landmark of Cape Town.

And so our journey began here in Cape Town! A journey that would change our lives in the long term and for the better!

It was a journey that set the wheels in motion for so much more. We didn't know what would come of it at the time, but we knew it was going to be incredible!

As soon as we got back from South Africa, the world went into the first lockdown due to the coronavirus. We had a lot of time to reflect on everything that had happened and to think about the future.
